Finding the joys of snow in the Lakes Region

This year, Wolfeboro and the Lakes Region have been blessed with tons of snow and sunshine (for those of you who find the close proximity in a sentence of "snow" and "blessed" offensive, please see my earlier post about billiards). While the bitter temperatures we face this week may keep some of us indoors, snow shoeing and cross country skiing in the Lakes Region could not be better. With proper attire, you'll even be warm! The Wolfeboro Cross Country Ski Association (Wolfeboro XC) maintains two excellent trails: The Abenaki Cross Country Ski Trail Network between Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro, and the Sewall Woods Cross Country Trail System (pictured here) right in Wolfeboro. The Sewall Woods Trail is easily accessible from town and is the perfect place for a quick jaunt in the snow during your lunch break. Wolfeboro XC also offers great programs and community events including youth programs, pancake breakfasts, races, and clinics for skiiers and snowshoers.

And the conditions? Wolfeboro XC calls them "Simply sweet." Trails are freshly groomed with more than 15" of new snow this week.  30 kilometers of skate-groomed trails and 15 kilometers of Backcountry. If you have never cross country skied or snowshoed, this is the perfect time to try it. Nordic Skier in Wolfeboro has rentals and the conditions are delightful. And if you'd just prefer sipping a hot beverage of your choice at home while watching ruddy-cheeked outdoor-types swish by, we have just the place: a new listing that is within site of the Sewall Woods Trail: 56 Pleasant Street in Wolfeboro. This Wolfeboro Colonial is magnificently situated near town and within view of the Trail. It also has great mountain views, a small view of Lake Winnipesauke, and a sauna in the finished basement. Contact us for more information or better yet, get your skis and let's go take a look. The back yard is perfect for sledding! Image credit: Wolfeboro Cross Country Ski Assocciation:
